Artist's Notes:

Walking up the steps to the Lincoln Memorial for the first time, I was momentarily speechless at my first look at the 19 foot statue of Lincoln inside. Never had the words carried so much weight as they did reading the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address inscribed on the walls inside. The impact of this visit has stayed with me resulting in several watercolors of Lincoln in attempts to share the experience. I think the feeling is best described by the words inscribed above the statue of Lincoln:

“In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever.”
