During a tour through the Ca’ d’Oro-Franchetti Gallery in Venice, I momentarily stepped onto an exterior balcony on the middle level. Standing hidden within the cool dark shadows, I was silently enthralled with a beautiful view of buildings on the Grand Canal. The architecture of the balcony seemed to frame the scene into 3 paintings. I was struck by the stunning contrast of the cool deep shadows adjacent to the warm bright sunlight on the columns of the balcony.
